October ~ Tea & Yarn

world of Octobers.jpg

October has been another month where a baby blanket has interrupted ūüėȬ† my Christmas projects but I’m happy to say one of the Christmas projects are done!

I modified the Snowman Cup Cozy by Yarn Artist to include a hat!

With black yarn I added three rows (after I had finished the white body) using the front loop only to encourage the rows to roll forward. I also added a couple stitches to help the hat fit and roll. [The hat has three rows of 28 sc (front loop only). ] I also shortened the nose. I had some chunky orange in my stash so most of my snowmen have noses that are only 4 stitches long. { ch 4, slip stitch in 2nd, hdc in next, dc in last, finish. leave long tail for sewing }

October brought another quick project (two actually but I’ve only started one!) Another lady at work is expecting so I’m making her a baby blanket. I’m using Red Heart Soft in grey and lilac to coordinate with baby’s room. The room is also going to have a Star Wars theme so I’ll make baby and her big sister lightsabers! Babies will be made with all cotton (absorbs teething drool) and big sisters will be made with some of the yarn in my stash.

I found this pattern for inspiration on Ravelry.

I promised myself that I wouldn’t start the lightsabers until I get at least one more of my Christmas gift list done!

How’s your #WIP coming along this month?

Tea & Yarn ~ September.

Wow. I thought August went by fast. September was a busy month. So busy that I posted August’s Tea & Yarn and ONE other post! Eeeek! While blogging has been quiet; I have been productive with my crochet hook.

P_20170823_085252-01I’ve written a few times about the gift I’ve been working on using Caron Cakes … I ended up buying one more cake to make it a bit bigger and put an edge on it.¬† (After Christmas I’ll make a full post for it!)

I started on my other Christmas projects finally. My living room is full of bags. I sorted my various projects into bags with all the yarn, the hook(s) and supplies that I need for each project. [ 25 Cup Cozys, 10 Jar Toppers, 3 hats, shawl, 6 teacup coasters, and a hat/scarf set] P_20170910_174958

I modified the patterns a bit. The snowman coffee cozy needed a hat and the mason jar lid needed adjusting to the size.

The snowman is a great stash buster! I had a big ball of white and a bunch of little balls of various colours that will be scarves and some stray balls of orange/black/red and voila!

For the jar topper, I had white but need to buy some holy leaf green and berry red. I found some red ribbon in the bargain bin.

For the hats etc I suppose I could have used some of my yarn at home (shhh don’t tell my hubby!) but there was a great yarn sale so….P_20170909_163317

I didn’t buy much at all, especially when you consider I was unsupervised!

I had started on two of the projects, then I found out that a co-worker may be going on OthercopyP_20171001_103552 (2)her maternity leave early, so I had to stop my Christmas crafts for her baby blanket.

I used Bernet Baby Blanket. (Chicks and Bunnies) OH MY! This yarn is as soft and cuddly as you could want for a winter baby!!

Then I was distracted again. With so many projects on the go, I found my stitch marker supply getting low. {Even with coupons, they’re expensive!} I found that I could make my own unique ones for less. (especially with a coupon and a bead sale!)P_20170925_182654

Well, I have a busy month ahead. The projects should work quickly. I just need to stay focused.

Did you get distracted this month?  How are your holiday projects turning out?

Something snuggly

This spring I found myself with a lot of extra time on my hands so…

I decided to make some baby blankets to sell. This is all very new and a little strange for me. At first I found it difficult to make something without someone in mind. (I really do put love into my projects!!)

I also didn’t care for the pattern at first. My family liked it and coaxed me to keep going. Now that I have two done in the basket weave stitch (as I call it) I found I really do like it.

I found my inspiration on Pinterest (I LOVE that site!!) It’s a¬†free pattern by Tamara of Moogly Blog

I had another blanket that I started for someone I worked with but lost touch with. ūüė¶ I took inspiration from her colours of Sunshine Yellow and Elephant Grey. Grey is such a trendy colour in nurseries lately.

So now I have blankets in a neutral, a traditional girl and a traditional boy colour sets. The blue and pink are made with Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly yarn. The yellow is made with Red Heart Super Saver.

I finally worked up the nerve to put them up for sale.(And on my crochet/craft site: Ailanthus Knots) ¬†I started on the local Kijiji site. I’m not sure what I’m most nervous about.. actually selling them or letting some stranger take one of my blankets.

Working up the nerve..

I’ve had several friends tell me that I should sell some of the things I make. So I’ve made three baby blankets and I’m working on some Christmas gifts / scarves.

Now I just have to get up the nerve to put my blankets out there for sale. ¬†I’m not sure if I’m more scared that no one will want them or that if someone will buy and like them.

I started a blog with the name I want to use. I’ve read blog posts, magazine articals and “how to tips”.

gulp..

Here’s a peek.

Edit: I did it!! Here’s my post on my other crochet / craft blog, Ailanthus Knots.
