#CreativePeopleProblems ~ The error

While I enjoy challenges and variety in my crochet projects my all time favourite projects are baby blankets. No matter how straight forward of a design they always feel special.

I was happy to create this blanket for a lady at work who is eagerly expecting her a sister for her son.  Having lots of blue and neutral blankets already, she asked for a pink and white blanket. She was thrilled when I gave it to her last week.

If she wasn’t due soon I wouldn’t have given it to her. I was that tempted to either undo the whole thing or make a new one.  As I was taking photos so I could share my work I saw IT.

Arrrr I must have used a different hook when I started this blanket. That’s all I can see every time I look now.  #creativepeopleproblems

Working up the nerve..

I’ve had several friends tell me that I should sell some of the things I make. So I’ve made three baby blankets and I’m working on some Christmas gifts / scarves.

Now I just have to get up the nerve to put my blankets out there for sale.  I’m not sure if I’m more scared that no one will want them or that if someone will buy and like them.

I started a blog with the name I want to use. I’ve read blog posts, magazine articals and “how to tips”.

gulp..

Here’s a peek.

Edit: I did it!! Here’s my post on my other crochet / craft blog, Ailanthus Knots.

Little projects

This is my first summer with no bigger projects. I started with projects because of the many hours I used to spend sitting and watching / waiting for my kids. It used to be 2 to 3 hours at swim lessons 5 days a week plus 2 to 3 hours of baseball 4 / 5 nights a week plus trips to the pool with their cousins for several hours every couple of days. I had A LOT of time to work on projects.
Now my babies are more grown up. Swim lessons are done, baseball is down to just a couple nights a week (and being score keeper my hands are busy), my oldest has a job and they don’t need Mom to be at the pool any more.

So far this summer I’ve made a baby blanket to get ahead of things. Last fall/winter that’s all I did!

I made a few scarves, one for daughter and one for Christmas gifts.

I have a baby blanket the I started for someone at work but she’s left that job. I think I’ll finish the body and leave the trim. The sunshine yellow and elephant grey is trendy. I’ll personalize it when I have someone specific to give it to.

I tdouble strand lap blanket (1)ried to make a shawl but had a very difficult time following the pattern. I gave up on the pattern and free formed it. Did NOT like that. So I just made a lap blanket.

I also got a wonderful bag of possibilities! I’ll save that for another post.

March Break… time to relax and crochet

Ahhh… working two part time jobs means your rarely get a whole day, never mind 4 glorious days in a row off.  At first I was antsy.. I’m so used to having something to do at a certain time.

It was a lovely four days.

Rewatching The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey and Torchwood and Doctor Who. I PINNED, and blogged. I pondered my blog n crochetMickey blanket ..still don’t know how I want to design that one. I finished another infinity scarf and started another. I started another baby blanket..just one to have on hand. {I don’t know what’s in the water at one of my jobs but WOW I’ve made a lot of those lately!}  Decided on what pattern I wanted for a shawl / wrap for me. GASP yes, I’m making something for ME!  I went shopping with my sister and surprise made her wait while I pondered what yarn I wanted.

The only sad thing was the store we went to was the one with the smaller yarn selection. We didn’t have time to go to the larger one. Even there the colour selection isn’t want I want. I still haven’t purchased the yarn for my Mood Blanket. I think I’ll have to order on line to get all the colours I want. I’ve never done that before and I’m still a little leery of it.

Spring Green Baby Blanket

This blanket went extra fast. I just love the colours so much that I couldn’t put it down!

I used a slip stitch to join the squares and finished with a wave edging.Spring baby

I used this pattern for the squares: https://crochetstitchesandbutterflykisses.wordpress.com/2014/02/09/pattern-spring-granny-square/

Pattern: Spring Granny Square

Please be patient.. This is my very first attempt at writing down a pattern.  I often take inspiration from others work. I will like how they started a square and how someone else finished theirs. So I’ll just mesh them together.

I wrote this more or less as I say it in my head. (sorry) So there is few short forms.  I’ve added photos to the bits I’m not sure that I explained well. Please .. all feedback will be most welcome.

Spring Green

It’s been a long winter. I’ve kept busy with lots of projects, mostly baby blankets!

The blanket that I started today makes me happy. I always love when I get to make a blanket from colours and yarn that I like.

The circle / granny ‘square’ I choose reminds me of a flower.

I love that shades of green and the Bernat Cotton yarn .

Here’s the first square =)  spring green square one

Fall crochet projects finished…almost

Patchwork Ponderings

What I love about a creative process is that you can start off with an idea, some materials and time, then end up with something different than you imagined.  That’s the wonderful thing about imagination …it wanders.

“Not all those who wander are lost.”  J.R.Tolkin

These projects were close to what I had envisioned but not quite.

I like the swirly scarves and the colours. I wasn’t thrilled that I couldn’t find the colours I wanted in a texture that I loved. And now, errrr… one of two scarves done. The other colour seems to have less in the balls of yarn because I’ve come up short and had to unravel (sigh) the whole thing.  If I’m not too mad at the whole thing I’ll post photos another day.

On to happier projects.

I love the texture for the “big sister” blanket.  And the colour make me think of purple…

A yarn sale started it…

Patchwork Ponderings

I love creating blankets and scarves. I love picking out the stitches and what colour yarn I want. I love the possibilities.

Pile of Possiblities

Then to tip my excitement over there are days like today…. A SALE and A COUPON for exactly what I want.  I was like a kid in the candy store being told I could buy my fill.

I was so excited because I have 4/5 projects to do by Christmas.  I get to make a couple scarves, a ‘big sister’ blanket (so she doesn’t feel left out), and a baby blanket with matching dolly blanket (so big sister can keep her dolly warm).

I’m especially thrilled about this baby blanket because I can make it in delicate baby PINK. I’ve made so many blue or neutral blankets, I’ve been dying to make a little pink one.

I looked through Pintrest ’til I found a pattern that called to…
