A Halloween table runner and the scary hook!

While looking for something to make my sister for her birthday I found a pattern for a Halloween themed table runner.  Eeeek… it calls for crochet thread and a teeny little hook. I’ve always been a bit afraid of these types of projects. (did I mention the hook is really little?)

But she loves decorating for Halloween and I love her. As you can tell… part of this project requires black thread!

It felt a little odd at first holding such a small hook and manipulating the crochet thread but… guess what?! It wasn’t as bad as I feared. Actually using the hook and thread was fine. Keeping track of how many ‘open’ and how many closed squares turned out to be trick in this treat of a gift! (There was quite a bit of frog’n !!)

The Stacked Pumpkin Table Runner pattern can be downloaded at the Red Heart site (here) It called for 2 balls of Classic Crochet Thread size 10 Pumpkin and one size 12 ball of Black. I found that I needed 3 balls (2 plus some) of the Pumpkin colour.

My sister and I are big Disney fans so I decided to modify the pattern a little. When I mickeys-not-so-scary-halloween-party_full_25199printed off (and enlarged) the graph I simply filled in a few extra spaces to form “Mickey ears” on the top pumpkin.

Another modification that I did was to the border. I was tight for time and decided to just add to the checkboard edge with a scallop finish to the ends vs the tassels.

Yarn and Coffee – June .. I finished projects!!!

Welcome. Pull up a chair on my porch.  Would you like an ice tea (sorry, I’m Canadian it’s not iced tea) maybe an ice coffee?  June’s Yarn and Coffee is a wee bit later than planned. The construction next door cut my phone line and we had to wait until today for it to be repaired.

I’m feeling very good about this month. I finally finished those wraps and a couple other new little projects!

made with Caron Cakes – Lemon Lime

My oldest nephew graduated from high school and I couldn’t be prouder! Lots of awards and a few scholarships! So I had to make him a scarf with his universities colours!

I’m trying not to blink because when I do he’ll be graduating university as a mechanical engineer.

A few months ago I bought some new curtains. I just got around to making some tiebacks for them. So I guess I should add this project to the finished the PHD projects 😉

In July I think I’ll work on posting some more details about last months projects and working on my “Molly poncho”.

What came off your hook this month?

Did you make a gift for someone?

I do so love hearing about your yarn adventures. In my Reader, I found Tanglewood Knots highlights for June.

Wooly Wednesday ~ Just love this orange

This yarn was donated to me. I don’t know what brand it is but like the other yarns from Wooly Wednesday…it’s in my stash.

It was going to be thrown out because the label had been lost. (GASP! Throw out yarn?! shudder) It’s lovely and soft. I’ve made a few scarves and headbands out of it.

Hope your day includes some yarn art!

Teacher gifts ~ Pencil Flowers

A little while ago while wandering through Pinterest I found Petal Pens (a crochet project)

Well, the end of the school year is fast approaching so I starting making them. I bought thicker yarn than the pattern calls for, used a smaller hook than the yarn suggests, made some minor (stitch count) alterations to the original pattern and voila!   {Tip: I found having a pen or pencil inserted made doing the stems much easier. }
