Yarn & Tea… Where did August go?

One minute I was planning a few projects and thinking (haha) that I’d start on my Christmas gifts then the next minute I was dropping our daughter off at the university. I did get some projects done and a serious dent in another project. And, well, one that I think I’m just going to abandon.

My last project of the month was a tiny one. While shopping we found a huge scoop at the shoe store. Among the deals, daughter found these boots for $15 !!!! So I had to whip up a pair of cuffs for her the night before she left.

I based them on a pattern I found on 7Alive’s site. I adjusted for the opening of the boot and added a couple rows of double crochet. I used some Bernet’s Handicraft Cotton that I had left over from another project.

Daughter’s boyfriend liked the fish that I made for her so I made him one too. It was supposed to be all red. (Thinking Dr. Suess books…) but I needed more yarn. I thought red and gold were good luck colours so I mixed them. As I finished my daughter laughed. I had used her school’s colours for his fish!

Does this count? I crocheted it years ago but shared it in August? On Instagram, I shared this granny square from one of my first blankets for Granny Square Day August 10th

I spent a fair bit of July and into August on a crochet zebra. I’m tempted to just abandon this project completely.

The zebra is not finished P_20170815_144208because I do not like how it turned out. It looks … badly proportioned but not in a comical ‘fun’ way. And the ears flop and I choose poorly to just use the “eyes” that I had and I don’t like the colour changes and…

Perhaps if I was more practiced in amigurumi I would know the little tricks but the pattern left those little hints out.

Humph… it can sit there while I ponder it.

And then there was a great coupon so I purchased a few cakes. (Ok so this was actually P_20170831_102356September BUT summer doesn’t finish for me for another day! So I’m going to count it as August. LOL) I’ll blog more about my love for this yarn … in October. Yes. October. (she mutters to herself.)

I’ve promised myself that I will start on my Christmas gifts before I play with the new yarn. I really really need to get going on those!!

What was on your hook last month? Do you have projects planned for September?

Yarn & Tea: July ~ Time flies when you are crocheting. Part 2

I know why July flew by! I was busy and as the saying goes.. “time flies when your crocheting”. That is how it goes? Isn’t it? 😉

I was concerned that your tea (or coffee or wine) needed refreshing so I made July’s wrap up into two posts. {Part One can be read here.} So now that we’ve refreshed our mugs (or glass) here I go..

~ ~ ~

In July I have also picked up the  Sidewalk shawl that I haven’t worked on in some time. It requires me to pay attention to the pattern. I usually make projects that don’t have changes to the pattern for each row.

While I’m enjoying the pattern I find that I can’t work this project when my darling family is around. After all these years they still have not caught on that counting louder means I’m trying to ignore you / I’m focusing on this.

Talking about having to pay attention…

I saw this adorable zebra pattern at Repeat Crafter Me. When I posted it to my Facebook page someone requested that I make one.  It’s a lovely pattern, very straight forward with obvious colour changes. (I’ll write more when I’m done.) This will be my second amigurumi 🙂 I’m still undecided if I’ll make more. As I posted on Instagram, some focus is needed because the neighbours will wonder what the yell of frustration is all about.20170726_173829

Among other things on my social media and blogs I played with a new header and title for my Facebook page. It was originally started just for the pieces of yarn art that I sell but now I post a variety of crochet ‘stuff’ including blog posts from here. So.. it needed an update.

Perhaps I should tackle a few jobs around the house now that I’ve spent half of summer working on my crafts?

Whew! Now to get back to my PHD (projects half done) I seem to have started several again! Oooops.

How are your projects coming along? Did you finish a few? Start one or two?

#YarnandTea (formally #YarnandCoffee) July ~ Time flies when you’re crocheting. Part 1

I’ve been updating my social media and blogs this month. Part of that is updating the title to this monthly post.

I started this monthly summary post and fell into some social pressure when I named it Yarn and Coffee. I don’t drink coffee unless it’s a fancy decaf dessert coffee. I’m a tea drinker. Since this post was intended to invite others to link and/or comment I thought I’d put coffee in the title.

“Having coffee” means getting together to chat; the beverage is usually optional. I waskeep-calm-its-all-about-me-7-18k52l7-257x300 inspired by #WeeklyCoffeeShare. I do enjoy the comments and hearing from you {please, please do continue!!!!} but I’m finding this monthly post is a lot about me. So….

The title is changing to my preferred hot beverage. 😉

What a busy month! July started with a bang! Lots of fireworks and celebrations for Canada Day. This year was a big one for us it’s our 150th.

P_20170717_101250We also celebrated some family time. We went camping at Rock Point Provincial Park. Camping with teens who love to read makes for a very calm and relaxing weekend. With lots of time to crochet.

I will have to bring a different chair or some other pillows for our next trip. I had a very difficult time getting comfortable in my new chair. The arms are too high and the back isn’t straight enough.

While camping I started one shawl. Just a simple C2C with yarn that’s been in my stash for ages. The other is also a C2C shawl. I know she will love the colours in Caron Cakes Funfetti so it’s going to be a Christmas present for her (shhh)

When we came back from camping, someone had messaged me on Facebook asking for more detailed instructions to the Jack Skellington blanket that I made this past winter. I more or less made my own “pattern” up so I wrote out directions for my Jack Skellington blanket and posted them. The lady wants to make a Jack blanket for her son before he’s deployed. I can’t wait to see photos of how it turns out!!!!

It’s been such a busy month that this post was rambling on so I’ve broken it into two parts. July’s Yarn and Tea Part 2 is coming soon.

What have you been up to? Has summer given you more time to create lots of yarn art?

Yarn and Coffee – June .. I finished projects!!!

Welcome. Pull up a chair on my porch.  Would you like an ice tea (sorry, I’m Canadian it’s not iced tea) maybe an ice coffee?  June’s Yarn and Coffee is a wee bit later than planned. The construction next door cut my phone line and we had to wait until today for it to be repaired.

I’m feeling very good about this month. I finally finished those wraps and a couple other new little projects!

made with Impeccable by Loops & Threads (FERN) / trim done with Vanna’s Choice by Lion Brand in Radiant Lime

made with Caron Cakes – Lemon Lime

made with Soft & Shiny by Loops & Threads – Royal Blue and Yellow

My oldest nephew graduated from high school and I couldn’t be prouder! Lots of awards and a few scholarships! So I had to make him a scarf with his universities colours!

I’m trying not to blink because when I do he’ll be graduating university as a mechanical engineer.

A few months ago I bought some new curtains. I just got around to making some tiebacks for them. So I guess I should add this project to the finished the PHD projects 😉

In July I think I’ll work on posting some more details about last months projects and working on my “Molly poncho”.

What came off your hook this month?

Did you make a gift for someone?

I do so love hearing about your yarn adventures. In my Reader, I found Tanglewood Knots highlights for June.
