February’s Yarn and Tea ~ More tea than yarn ;)

Yes, We’re well into March and I’m just getting around to sharing what I did in February.

You’d think since I have such a short update that I would have finished this post earlier but… I think the winter blahs have caught me this year. My mind hasn’t been on blogging nor have my hands been very busy with crochet. I am looking forward to spring; to summer; to be out in the sun. I’m looking forward to our camping trips. Even picked up this new mug for those trips!

I managed to finish just one wee little project this month. A friend wanted a wine glass lanyard. It was a fun, very quick project. Now to just set a time to meet with her so she can enjoy it! 😉 Feb projects at Crochet Stitches n Butterfly Kisses (3)

On Pinterest I’ve been distracted with cardigan, wrap and sweater Feb projects at Crochet Stitches n Butterfly Kisses (2)projects. I really want to try making one this year. Last month I wanted to make a sweater from the Caron Cakes that I purchased a few months ago but… I need at least one more ball and my local store doesn’t have this colour. Once I couldn’t find it I lost the “oomph” and set the yarn aside.

Several nights I wanted to crochet but also wanted to watch a movie or t.v. show. The sidewalk shawl needs a bit too much of my attention for me to watch a show and crochet so…

Ever since I’ve discovered C2C it’s been my go-to stitch for ‘busy-hands’ projects. I love that I can just crochet without paying too close of attention.

I’m not sure if this is going to be a small blanket or a shawl yet. We’ll have to see where the yarn takes me!

Then there’s the project that I promised to make for a friend [for next Christmas] but it’s a different type of amigurumi and the designer suggests making one of her other projects first. She suggests this so that we’re not following ‘different’ techniques which using a challenging yarn. I haven’t picked up a hook for this one yet but I did buy the yarn!

The Bernet Pipsqueak yarn is very soft and very fuzzy. It will make an adorable snowman. But first… I’m going to make a ragdoll bunny 😉 I picked up the yarn when my daughter was home for her Spring Break and Family Day.  Next week is our March Break so I’ll start on the bunny as soon as I finish the Sidewalk Shawl.

I feel like I’ve been working on this project forever! I’m pleased with how it is working up. To spite the counting and frogn’ I’ve had to do!

I’ve decided that I will have to find a dress to go with this shawl when I attend my nephew’s graduation in June. However, to that, I must finish it! I’m off to brew another pot of tea, sit in the warmth of the sun that is coming through my window and crochet!

What was on your hook in February?

December 2017 ~ Yarn and Tea

I imagined myself posting this on time alas there is only so much one can accomplish in a month. Especially with a well-timed illness.

I was on the couch from Christmas ’til New Years but I’m feeling 90% better now. It was a well-timed illness because I finished all my Christmas crochet gifts, all my wrapping and cooking AND was just starting to feel icky on Christmas Day!!  I was fortunate to have absolutely nothing to do last week and could dedicate it all to being a sleepy, sick couch potato,

In December, I finished off the hats, made a couple other scarves. I didn’t get the last

Waffle stitch baby blanket

baby blanket or the baby toys done because I won’t work on baby stuff when I’m sick. They’ll be the perfect way to start off 2018!

Over the past few months, I worked on several Christmas crochet gifts (pattern links) that started with a C2C shawl for my sister in July.

I didn’t initially plan on making hats but when I experimented on my hubby I found a hat pattern that I liked for the guys. Then I found one a pattern for the girls.

It’s funny once I started the waffle pattern for the WIP baby blanket it seemed to pop up in other patterns I liked. Such as my Christmas scarf, the Urban Shell Scarf for the girls and their Alpine Nights hats.

After I made hats, scarves and cup cozies I filled little mason jars with candy or hot chocolate and topped with a plain version a pattern I found in the summer. {The holly embellishment was too big for these little jars.} I had finished my sister’s teacup coasters earlier in the fall. The pattern is one I listed in the pattern collection post.

I hope that your December was full of yarn and joy!

I’d love to see what was on your hook!

October ~ Tea & Yarn

world of Octobers.jpg

October has been another month where a baby blanket has interrupted 😉  my Christmas projects but I’m happy to say one of the Christmas projects are done!

I modified the Snowman Cup Cozy by Yarn Artist to include a hat!

With black yarn I added three rows (after I had finished the white body) using the front loop only to encourage the rows to roll forward. I also added a couple stitches to help the hat fit and roll. [The hat has three rows of 28 sc (front loop only). ] I also shortened the nose. I had some chunky orange in my stash so most of my snowmen have noses that are only 4 stitches long. { ch 4, slip stitch in 2nd, hdc in next, dc in last, finish. leave long tail for sewing }

October brought another quick project (two actually but I’ve only started one!) Another lady at work is expecting so I’m making her a baby blanket. I’m using Red Heart Soft in grey and lilac to coordinate with baby’s room. The room is also going to have a Star Wars theme so I’ll make baby and her big sister lightsabers! Babies will be made with all cotton (absorbs teething drool) and big sisters will be made with some of the yarn in my stash.

I found this pattern for inspiration on Ravelry.

I promised myself that I wouldn’t start the lightsabers until I get at least one more of my Christmas gift list done!

How’s your #WIP coming along this month?

Tea & Yarn ~ September.

Wow. I thought August went by fast. September was a busy month. So busy that I posted August’s Tea & Yarn and ONE other post! Eeeek! While blogging has been quiet; I have been productive with my crochet hook.

P_20170823_085252-01I’ve written a few times about the gift I’ve been working on using Caron Cakes … I ended up buying one more cake to make it a bit bigger and put an edge on it.  (After Christmas I’ll make a full post for it!)

I started on my other Christmas projects finally. My living room is full of bags. I sorted my various projects into bags with all the yarn, the hook(s) and supplies that I need for each project. [ 25 Cup Cozys, 10 Jar Toppers, 3 hats, shawl, 6 teacup coasters, and a hat/scarf set] P_20170910_174958

I modified the patterns a bit. The snowman coffee cozy needed a hat and the mason jar lid needed adjusting to the size.

The snowman is a great stash buster! I had a big ball of white and a bunch of little balls of various colours that will be scarves and some stray balls of orange/black/red and voila!

For the jar topper, I had white but need to buy some holy leaf green and berry red. I found some red ribbon in the bargain bin.

For the hats etc I suppose I could have used some of my yarn at home (shhh don’t tell my hubby!) but there was a great yarn sale so….P_20170909_163317

I didn’t buy much at all, especially when you consider I was unsupervised!

I had started on two of the projects, then I found out that a co-worker may be going on OthercopyP_20171001_103552 (2)her maternity leave early, so I had to stop my Christmas crafts for her baby blanket.

I used Bernet Baby Blanket. (Chicks and Bunnies) OH MY! This yarn is as soft and cuddly as you could want for a winter baby!!

Then I was distracted again. With so many projects on the go, I found my stitch marker supply getting low. {Even with coupons, they’re expensive!} I found that I could make my own unique ones for less. (especially with a coupon and a bead sale!)P_20170925_182654

Well, I have a busy month ahead. The projects should work quickly. I just need to stay focused.

Did you get distracted this month?  How are your holiday projects turning out?

Yarn & Tea… Where did August go?

One minute I was planning a few projects and thinking (haha) that I’d start on my Christmas gifts then the next minute I was dropping our daughter off at the university. I did get some projects done and a serious dent in another project. And, well, one that I think I’m just going to abandon.

My last project of the month was a tiny one. While shopping we found a huge scoop at the shoe store. Among the deals, daughter found these boots for $15 !!!! So I had to whip up a pair of cuffs for her the night before she left.

I based them on a pattern I found on 7Alive’s site. I adjusted for the opening of the boot and added a couple rows of double crochet. I used some Bernet’s Handicraft Cotton that I had left over from another project.

Daughter’s boyfriend liked the fish that I made for her so I made him one too. It was supposed to be all red. (Thinking Dr. Suess books…) but I needed more yarn. I thought red and gold were good luck colours so I mixed them. As I finished my daughter laughed. I had used her school’s colours for his fish!

Does this count? I crocheted it years ago but shared it in August? On Instagram, I shared this granny square from one of my first blankets for Granny Square Day August 10th

I spent a fair bit of July and into August on a crochet zebra. I’m tempted to just abandon this project completely.

The zebra is not finished P_20170815_144208because I do not like how it turned out. It looks … badly proportioned but not in a comical ‘fun’ way. And the ears flop and I choose poorly to just use the “eyes” that I had and I don’t like the colour changes and…

Perhaps if I was more practiced in amigurumi I would know the little tricks but the pattern left those little hints out.

Humph… it can sit there while I ponder it.

And then there was a great coupon so I purchased a few cakes. (Ok so this was actually P_20170831_102356September BUT summer doesn’t finish for me for another day! So I’m going to count it as August. LOL) I’ll blog more about my love for this yarn … in October. Yes. October. (she mutters to herself.)

I’ve promised myself that I will start on my Christmas gifts before I play with the new yarn. I really really need to get going on those!!

What was on your hook last month? Do you have projects planned for September?
